In Sanskrit, ‘sitali’ = ‘soothing or cooling’, ‘prana’ = ‘life force’, and ‘ayam’ = ‘extension’. The term simply means the practice of breathing that is cooling and soothing to the body and the mind. The practice involves using the tongue while it is rolled inwards, forming the shape of a pipe. Through this pipe formation, air is taken in and then exhaled out through the nostrils.
